About Me

Sunday Elesi

I am a Digital Transformation Specialist, Software Engineer, Public Health Informatics Advisor, and AI Automation Engineer. I build human-centered digital products and data systems that strengthen public health programs, streamline operations, and support evidence-driven decision-making at scale. My work sits at the intersection of technology, public health, and innovation.

I currently work as a Health Information Systems Advisor at PATH on the STRIDES project, where I contribute to strengthening health information systems, public health data infrastructure, data management, interoperability, and surveillance and outbreak reporting. Prior to this, I worked with FHI 360, Caritas Nigeria, and APIN Public Health Initiatives, supporting HIV care and treatment programs through public health informatics, data quality improvement, and electronic medical record systems.

Academic Foundation

I have a strong academic background in Information Technology and Information Management. I earned a First Class degree in Information Technology from Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, a Master of Science in Information Technology from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), and a Master in Information Management from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Technical Expertise

I am a multidisciplinary engineer with expertise spanning software development, health informatics, AI automation, backend systems, databases, APIs, analytics, cloud deployment, and modern DevOps practices. My development experience includes Python, Node.js, Next.js/TypeScript, React.js, PHP, MySQL, MongoDB, Azure, and Git-based workflows.

With a strong background in public health informatics and health information systems, I have led and supported the design and implementation of HIS platforms, EMRs, surveillance and reporting systems, data quality frameworks, and analytics pipelines that strengthen program monitoring and decision-making across public health initiatives.

AI and Automation Focus

As an Applied AI Strategist, I bring AI into everyday development and product workflows, from using AI tools to improve engineering efficiency to designing AI-enabled features that enhance user experience and system intelligence.

  • Building intelligent automation systems through custom coding
  • Workflow automation using n8n, Make, and Zapier
  • WhatsApp business workflow automation using Cloud APIs
  • Telegram bot development and automation
  • AI integration into software applications
  • Prompt engineering
  • LLM-based application development
  • Chatbot engineering and conversational AI systems

I am currently deepening my expertise in AI engineering, particularly around large language models, intelligent assistants, AI-powered business systems, and embedding AI capabilities directly into software products and enterprise workflows.

Innovation Initiatives

One of my most notable innovation initiatives is HCADE (Human Centered Automation & Distribution Engine), a framework designed around the philosophy that automation should augment and empower humans rather than replace them. Built around this framework is Mutumina, a human-first automation platform that I developed, deployed, and currently operate in active use.

Beyond healthcare and AI, I also build operational and commercial digital systems. My latest project is a transportation and car booking platform that enables passengers to book and pay online, schedule transportation, rent buses, manage bookings, and allows administrators to monitor vehicle operations and customer activities from a centralized system.

I am currently exploring and researching AI automation for evidence-based public health messaging and community engagement (EMCE), an approach with the potential to deliver timely, culturally relevant health information at scale, strengthen community trust, and improve uptake of preventive and treatment services across public health programs.

Complementing this work, I am also designing intelligent chatbots that translate program data into practical guidance, support micro-learning for health teams and volunteers, and extend capacity building beyond one-off trainings into everyday workflow. Together, these initiatives aim to close the gap between reports, dashboards, and frontline action, helping communities and health workers access the right message, insight, or learning at the moment it matters most.

Leadership and Capacity Building

Beyond delivery, I enjoy capacity strengthening, mentoring teams, coordinating public health informatics volunteers and interns, and helping others grow the technical skills needed to drive sustainable innovation.

I thrive where software engineering, data, and system intelligence meet. My focus is turning complex ideas into practical, high-impact digital solutions through automation, reusable architectures, and modernization of legacy systems. If you are working on meaningful digital transformation or looking to collaborate on smarter, faster, and more sustainable solutions, I am always open to connect.
